Strengths

The day nursery and primary school in Lambley offer high standards of educational provision for children aged 6 months to 11 years. Both were awarded a grade 2 (good) in recent OFSTED inspections, copies of which can be obtained by clicking here. Both institutions liaise effectively with one another which has allowed for a before and after school club to run at the nursery in conjunction with Lambley Primary. The nursery, which opens 7:30 - 5:45 week daily, were recently awarded a ‘highly recommended’ in the National Nursery Awards for both the Nursery Newcomer and Independent Nursery Categories. At the primary school, the PTA provide many opportunities for parents to get involved in the school including summer fetes, Christmas fares, quiz nights and a bonfire evening. The local pubs provide a place for residents to meet and catch up and also a place for outsiders to enjoy a rest from walking around the idyllic surroundings of the Lambley Dumbles. The Rambling Association and the Lambley Heritage Society are great strengths of the village and most certainly boost many residents sense of community.

Weaknesses

There is little for the teenagers living in the Lambley to get involved with. There are approximately 95 residents aged 10-14. Too old for the local school, too young for the pub and unable to drive, it is likely that many of these teenagers are bored. This type of social disorganisation can often result in crime (Karn 2007:31), which may explain why the village has medium level crime rates (Office of National Statistics). It must be noted that although the Rambling Association and the Heritage Society provide great social capital, they are aimed primarily at the older residents of Lambley.

The bus services are also fairly limited and do not allow for travel in the evenings.
